Prime Minister Edi Rama has called on businesses to declare their employees' salaries, otherwise drastic measures will be taken.
He emphasized that taxes must be paid necessarily, as pensioners must benefit because of the contributions they have made.
Thus, Rama added that at the end of the year, pensioners will be given their bonus, as the structure will change.
"How can we continue, while here Albania is being invaded by foreign tourists, we are the country that has less accommodation per number of tourists. It doesn't seem to me that the streets of Albania are full of foreign tourists sleeping outside. I myself have not seen them. But where do these people speak? They do not appear either in the hotels or in the houses that they provide. Therefore, one thing I want to convey a message, we do not want to do a repressive operation, but the undertaking to get the message very clearly. If we see how much the funds have increased, Albania has made a lot of progress and you are the first to benefit from this economic growth. They are definitely benefiting, everyone is benefiting from the investments that the state is making, but the pensioners who made the contributions are not benefiting.
We will undoubtedly do our part, one is to allocate more budget for pensioners and the other is to pay taxes. It's just a transfer, every social security company indicates that a pensioner x will get her own pension because employee x paid social security. Builders who will declare 60,000 lek salary that does not exist at all, I promise you that the declaration will be reversed. If we do not reflect this, you will face the same situation that electricity thieves faced. So take it seriously that the salary declaration will be serious.
However, we are also studying the possibility, like the Nordic countries, to see the possibility of who pays what, publicly. They are not threats and pressures at all, they are simply transparency to give answers to pensioners about what will be done with them. I believe that we will give them the answer they expect, starting from the end of this year, where the bonus structure will change and we will give them what they deserve", he said.
