A video that is rapidly circulating on social media has caused numerous reactions around the world.
During the traditional "San Juan" celebrations in Paraguay, a doll symbolizing French footballer Kylian Mbappé was first hung from a tree and then burned in the presence of participants, amidst the cheers of the crowd.
According to the tradition of this festival, each year an effigy is symbolically burned representing the most controversial or least liked character of the moment. This year, the choice fell on the France and Real Madrid striker, making him part of a ritual that has sparked controversy.
Footage released shows Mbappé's doll hanging from a tree, before it bursts into flames moments later in front of hundreds of spectators. The video has gone viral online, sparking widespread discussion and reactions among fans.
Although the organizers consider this a symbolic tradition with no personal intentions towards individuals, the scenes have caused strong reactions due to their symbolism. As a result, the name of Kylian Mbappé has returned to the spotlight, this time not for his performances on the pitch, but for an episode outside of football.
