Prime Minister Rama rejected the idea of having a calendar process for Albania's full membership in the European Union.
During the joint conference with French President Emmanuel Macron, he said that it is not in the interest of our country to have a date, not even to be privileged compared to other countries, but the goal is to change the history of our country.
According to him, the signs of this change are evident in the agreements that are being signed, which until yesterday you did not have the luxury of imagining if you were not part of the union.
"Of course, it will take some time for the very clear message of the president last night and today, which is new for the approach to the region, to break the ears of all those who are very interested in this process but who are used to seeing this process only in the traditional way. Your question is an expression of this learning, of all of us for many years, with the idea that this process is a path of reforms and evaluations by the Brussels bureaucracy that ends with membership. While, every day more and more in a world that is becoming more complicated, the necessity of complementing this traditional path with a parallel path where countries are given more space where the unification of Europe becomes practical and tangible on both sides stands out. There are no preferential lanes in this process. We must to continue in the spirit of that legacy from the time of Skanderbeg, to the Renaissance, to the people who for centuries have loved Europe as their own, even when the EU did not exist. I wish that this concept turns into a mechanism that enables us to at the summit, development began to expand as a parallel path.
The new growth plan is the first stone. For the first time, they will benefit from more funding and access to the common economic market. Albania does not care about a date, before that a meeting would remain unfulfilled. We do not do this process to convince the EU countries, we do it to finally change the history of our country and to make irreversible the Europeanization of the Balkans to escape the temptations of others. The union of Europe must happen ," said Rama.
