The President of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyen, in the joint conference with Prime Minister Edi Rama, gave several important messages for our country and the path to the EU.
She said, among other things, that Albania is moving successfully towards the EU, but added that there is also a need for some reforms. Von der Leyen said that at this summit we should focus on a new plan for EU growth.
"Albania is moving successfully towards the EU. This is because we want you to become part of us to unite the EU. This will make Europe bigger, stronger in a world that is changing a lot. Albania has made a lot of progress in the screening process. Our common objective is to open negotiations.
The second message is that we are building this common future and we need to do this immediately so that your country is ready for membership and we can form trade cooperation. We started with an investment of 30 billion euros. One of them is the hydropower plant of Fierza. We can achieve a lot together.
Today I want to focus on the new plan for the EU. Where the plan has the potential to grow your country's economy. For this, reforms that will be accompanied by investments are necessary. This will also be accompanied by financing. The third message, our investments will have the same capacity as the work you will do. Our third message is that our investments will have the same value as your jobs. I think this is coming at the right moment for Albania and the EU to be closer to each other.
