Recently, the heavy shadow of several scandals in which her name has been implicated tarnished the image of a girl, or an educated woman in the West, an image on which she climbed the steps of her career in the party and then in the government...
While collecting personal belongings from the office of the foreign minister, whose keys she kept for two years and eight months, Olta Xhaçka must have once again asked herself where she went wrong, to deserve that shocking dismissal from office. What was that moment that cost him his career along with the coveted position as head of diplomacy? Who was it that could have convinced Rama to sign for her sudden dismissal without being charged? The oligarchs, for whom he was forced to negotiate with the senior military? The Americans, with whom he had collaborated in the UN? Or some trick from Greece?
A few days before the dismissal, a completely different wind was blowing for Xhačka. On September 1, he appeared in front of the cameras and talked about the job that awaited him in Albania's second presidency in the Security Council. There were new commitments ahead, innovative projects and relationships to strengthen with Western partners.
He had not noticed that on the table full of colorful pencils of the prime minister, with one of them a dash was drawn over the name Xhaçka, as a sign of the final departure from the government.
Loyal to Renaissance policies, with early contributions to the opposition and with a strong personal connection that passes through her husband, Artan Gaçi, a former schoolmate of Rama, Xhaçka has been one of the ministers with the most solid positions in the government for 6 consecutive years.
But recently, the heavy shadow of several scandals in which her name has been implicated tarnished her image of a girl, or an educated woman in the West, an image on which she climbed the steps of her career in the party and then in the government. The chances are that the prime minister has released Xhaçka after the serious scandals where he was rumored, at a time when Albanian diplomacy has to account for the Greek diplomatic counterattack for Fredi Beleri.
Xhaçka has been to SPAK several times, where she was interrogated regarding the leasing of the Limion naval base, during the period when she headed the Ministry of Defense. In July 2020, the government leased the base for the construction of a tourist project that was to be realized by the merger of the companies "Concord Investment" sh.pk and "Kastrati Group" sh.a., represented by the company "Marina Bay Saranda ltd.
But a report by the former Deputy Commander of the Naval Force Artur Meçollari, who claimed that the President's approval was not obtained for the removal of the property from the Expansion Plan, as commander of the armed forces, caused SPAK to start the procedures and seize the property.
Meçollari has shown that Xhaçka has negotiated with the military to remove properties from the Expansion Plan, putting themselves in the role of real estate agents in the interest of big businessmen.
The history of the 5-star hotel in Dhërmi, owned by her husband, Artan Gaçi, has caused a lot of trouble for Olta Xhaçka, but also for the Socialist Party and Prime Minister Edi Rama. The opposition accuses Xhaçka of being in a conflict of interest as a minister, since her husband was declared a "strategic investor" by government decision. Xhaçka defended herself by saying that she did not participate in the meeting where the decision was made and that her husband had been in business for years.
The efforts of the opposition to send Xhaçka's mandate to the Constitutional Court were rejected by the Socialist Party, forcing the Constitutional Court to take a decision against the Socialists. But the opposition's request has remained a hostage to the procrastination of the procedures in the parliament, as the socialists have turned into Xhačka's shield.
On the eve of the election of the new head of SPAK in December last year, Xhaçka made a false step, probably forced by her boss, Edi Rama. Our Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs published a status on Twitter, according to which it was confirmed that "the procedure to replace Ambassador Kim has officially started".
This message was a clear bolt in the sky, in the excellent relations between former ambassador Juri Kim and our Foreign Minister, Olta Xhaçka. Normally, the US announcement to inform our Foreign Ministry that it had started the procedure to replace the ambassador should be kept confidential. / Lapsi.al
