Tony Blair in Pristina: Let's join hands so that Kosovo is recognized by
Former British Prime Minister, Tony Blair

The former British Prime Minister, Tony Blair addressed today with a message to the deputies of the Assembly of Kosovo.

Blair, who played a leading role during the 1999 NATO bombing campaign that halted the advances of Serbian occupation forces and helped Kosovo gain independence, said he never regrets the decision they made 25 years ago.

"It is an honor for me to be here today and I cannot thank you enough for the warm welcome. 25 years ago the agreement was reached for the liberation of the territory of Kosovo, and Kosovo was finally free and the people were free to live , they hope and believe again in a free future... We helped and I never regret it," said Blair.

Blair added that today we remember those who gave their lives for freedom, remember their courage and sacrifice and express our deep gratitude to them and their families.

"As prime minister at the time, many memories come back to me of negotiations with world leaders and the complexity of the decision at that time of war," Blair said.

Blair called on countries that have not yet recognized Kosovo's independence to do so. He emphasized that the youth is the future of Kosovo.

"I know that Kosovo still faces challenges, but the youth you have, who are very smart, is the future of Kosovo," said Blair.

He also said that he expects Kosovo to be part of the European Union in the future.

"A lot of positive things are happening here, which are good for the whole world. I can't wait to see the day that Kosovo takes its place in the European family. Soon I will address the members of the Assembly, but once again I want to express solidarity with the people of Kosovo", said Blair.

In the end, he added that the recognition of Kosovo by the whole world is completely achievable.

"Imagine the art and culture of Kosovo joining other countries. This is a completely achievable thing, so we join hands. Not just to be free, but because freedom opens the human mind. Today we can build a new dream, we owe it to those we remember today. This is what they want! This would be the greatest gift for those who gave their lives."
