The chairman of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, has spoken about his relationship with former prime minister Sali Berisha. He has stated that there has been no communication with Berisha since September 2021, except for some messages in cases of family disasters.
Basha added that time has shown that if Berisha followed his advice, it would be better for the country and for the former prime minister himself.
He emphasized that at this stage where Berisha is, he has nothing more to give for Albania and added that he sees him with regret when he speaks from the balcony of his house.
"On this point, we are the overwhelming majority in one mind. The more we deal with this issue, the less we deal with our duty to the citizens, which is both the denunciation of bad governance and the disclosure of the alternative. That's why we decided to end this telenovela. Albanians know how corrupt this government is. They know that they have introduced criminals into its ranks to take and keep power.
Let's give the Albanians the way out of this situation. The DP has the duty to give the change offer. An offer as essential, but also a reliable way to implement this affair. I am not happy to see Berisha in this position. I'm sorry. After all, he is a man who has done a lot for the country in 34 years of the Albanian transition.
Of course, it has its ups and downs, but the positive things it has done for the country cannot be denied either. Time has proven that if he had followed my advice, it would have been better for Albania, for DP, but also for himself and his family. It is ill advised. In this position, I have nothing more to give neither for DP nor for myself. September 9, 2021 was the last time I contacted Berisha.
