Prime Minister Edi Rama, during an electoral meeting in the city of Shkodra, said that if Albania were in the situation described by his opponents, then the country would not even be near the negotiating table with Brussels.
Rama responded to accusations of a "narco-state" while saying that a country that, according to the opposition, has no water or electricity, could not be in negotiations with the EU.
"How can they negotiate with a 'narco' country, how can they? How can they negotiate with a country that has no water or electricity," said Rama.
The Prime Minister also stated that in 2013 the country was on the verge of collapse, where according to him there were not even crayons in schools because they had no money.
"Hidden debt had blocked the government."
Albania in 2013 was on the verge of a second pyramid-like collapse. Debt to companies was very high. Popuplli saved the country by a narrow margin.
No roads were finished, there were tenders to dig holes everywhere and to beat the drums that we were working. There were no crayons in the schools, because there was no more money.
"The disabled had not received a single lek, the state had 40 million euros for them, they went out in wheelchairs and crutches to protests, they were being beaten to death ," said Rama.
