Edi Rama's Socialists have officially announced their candidate for Mayor of Mati in the local by-elections to be held on November 9.
Altin Bojni, director of Public Health and member of the Municipal Council, has received the 'blessing' from Edi Rama to run in the elections, while previously it was the Assembly of the PS Mat branch that selected him as a candidate for mayor.
The opposition, on the other hand, is expected to compete with an independent figure, as it has been agreed with some of its allies that non-political names will be selected in the 6 municipalities where the local by-elections will be held.
Based on the decree of the President of the Republic, partial elections will be held in the Municipalities of Tirana, Vlora, Berat, Mat, Cërrik, Tepelena, where the mayors have either resigned due to running as MPs in the May 11 elections, or were dismissed as in the case of Erion Veliaj, who has been in detention since February 10, 2025 by decision of the GJKKO and request of SPAK.
