The chief diplomats of Kosovo and Serbia clashed at the meeting of the United Nations Security Council, where the six-monthly report of the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, on the UN mission in Kosovo was discussed.
The Foreign Minister of Serbia, Marko Djuric, said that Kosovo Serbs are being discriminated against and oppressed by the Kosovo authorities. However, these accusations were rejected by the chief diplomat of Kosovo, Donika Gërvalla.
Gërvalla defended the actions of the Government of Kosovo in the north inhabited by Serb majority, which the international community has described as unilateral actions.
She said that Djuric's claims that Serbs in Kosovo do not have access to health, education and bank accounts should not be believed.
"The reality is clear. Finally, citizens are breathing freely and without fear of criminal gangs", said Gërvalla.
Djuric complained that Serbs are facing discrimination, violence and oppression, mentioning some of the recent decisions of the Government of Kosovo, such as the ban on the use of the Serbian dinar for cash payments, the closure of the branches of the Post of Serbia and municipalities that they worked according to the Serbian system.
He said that Serbia stands with the Serbs in Kosovo and asked the international community to react.
" The time for decisive action is now. Pristina's actions continue to undermine stability, violate human rights and ignore international agreements. We need clear consequences. Sanctions should be imposed on [Kosovo Prime Minister Albin] Kurti's administration and there should be zero tolerance for other unilateral actions that incite conflicts and tensions ," he said.
The head of the UN mission in Kosovo, UNMIK, Caroline Zijadeh, mentioned the concern expressed by the Serbian civil sector, residents and political parties regarding the decisions to close the institutions in the north - which operated according to the Serbian system - for the impact they have on life. theirs.
"The closure of the branches of the Post of Serbia and the municipal offices that are managed by Serbia have limited their access to services of key importance, especially regarding the Serbian community in Kosovo," she said.
The Serbian Foreign Minister, Marko Gjuric, also demanded that Kosovo immediately establish the Association of Serb-majority municipalities in Kosovo, which he said would guarantee the rights of Serbs.
According to Gjurič, Kosovo does not want to establish this association, for which he said that it is not an option, but an obligation from the Brussels dialogue.
However, Gërvalla said that the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, is not interested in the Association making life easier for Kosovo Serbs.

Përgjegjësinë për sulmin e ka marrë Millan Radoiçiç, ish-nënkryetar i Listës Serbe, partisë kryesore të serbëve në Kosovë që gëzon mbështetjen e Beogradit.

Gërvalla tha se Kosova kërkon ekstradimin e Radoçiçit nga Serbia.
Ndërkaq, Gjuriç tha se Kosova duhet të ofrojë dëshmitë, që Serbia i ka kërkuar për sulmin në Banjskë dhe të tregojë se si u vranë tre sulmuesit serbë, gjatë këmbimit të zjarrit me Policinë e Kosovës.
SHBA-ja kërkon që përgjegjësit e Banjskës të dalin para drejtësisë
Ambasadori amerikan në OKB, Robert Wood, kritkoi Serbinë se nuk ka bërë mjaftueshëm që përgjegjësit e sulmit në Banjskë të përballen me drejtësinë.
"Ka kaluar më shumë që nga sulmi paramilitar serb ndaj Policisë së Kosovës në Banjskë dhe Serbia nuk ka bërë asnjë përparim të dukshëm për të mbajtur përgjegjës, përfshirë liderin e vetëshpallur të këtij sulmi Millan Radoiçiç. Ne kërkojmë përgjegjësi të plotë", tha ai.
Ai po ashtu tha se SHBA-ja është e shqetësuar me veprimet e pakoordinuar të Qeverisë së Kosovës, që nuk përkojnë me zotimet e Kosovës që të punojë në kuadër të dialogut që ndërmjetësohet nga BE-ja".
"Këto veprime prekin mirëqenien e komuniteteve joshumicë dhe minojnë rrugën drejt normalizimit të raporteve mes Kosovës dhe Serbisë".

Wood said the US is working with allies to reduce tensions and implement all agreements, including the one on the Association.

Meanwhile, the Russian ambassador to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, criticized Kosovo for violating the rights of Serbs and, as he said, violence against Serbs.
"Inter-ethnic tensions in Kosovo are the highest in the last 50 years," Nebenzya claimed, adding that the government of Kosovo's prime minister, Albin Kurti, "will continue to oppress the Serbs" if the international community "does not prevent it."
He also requested that Kosovo establish the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority.
During the meeting, the ambassadors of France and the United Kingdom demanded that those responsible for the attack in Banjska face justice. These two countries also requested progress in the implementation of the dialogue agreements, including the one for the establishment of the Association. / REL
