Kosovo, the first country in the region to say "Yes" to Trump...
Prime Minister Albin Kurti has officially acknowledged that Kosovo has reached a preliminary agreement with the US to host immigrants expelled from it.
Following the news in the media, Kurti reacted on social media, stating that there was a request from the US to keep the deported immigrants and it was accepted by his government. He stated that they will be selected according to a certain procedure, while during their stay in Kosovo they will be subject to local laws.
" In response to the request of the United States of America for the temporary admission and relocation of third-country nationals, the expressed readiness for cooperation with our partner and ally, today we translated it into a Government Decision, at our 262nd meeting. According to this decision, our state, within a period of one year, will accept and shelter up to 50 individuals with the aim of facilitating their safe return to their country of origin. The selection of these persons will be made from a proposed list, as long as they meet certain criteria related to the rule of law and public order. During their stay in Kosovo, these persons will act in accordance with the legislation in force and will enjoy the rights defined by our legislation in force ," he said.
Kurti seems to be using this opportunity to calm relations with the Americans, after the tensions and clashes of recent years. " The United States of America remains our steadfast ally and the Republic of Kosovo will always be their reliable partner. We are forever grateful for their continued assistance and cooperation, and we highly appreciate their support in defense and development, and especially in our journey towards Euro-Atlantic integration ," Kurti writes.
It was the American media that reported that the US has requested countries in the region to shelter refugees deported by Trump. In an article by "Bloomberg", Serbia was mentioned, but it seems that there have been requests for other countries as well.
The question that arises is: Is Albania among these countries? The signals are that a similar request has also come to Tirana and now we will see whether Edi Rama will accept it or not. So far there is a lack of information and no details are given. /Pamphlet
