The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, said that he will not sign the association of municipalities with a Serbian majority in the north of Kosovo.
In a press conference, Kurti said that the heads of the EU countries and the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, had the opportunity on October 26 to receive his signature for the formation of the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority in the North.
He also said that those who requested the Association should be asked why they missed such a good chance.
"I am telling you things that I have told you before, because there is nothing new here for me to have new answers. On October 26, I was told that the situation is urgent, the Russian aggression in Ukraine is not ending, a war has started in the Middle East, therefore it is a vital, urgent issue, the normalization of relations. As it is, we are signing it tonight. But there is a ranking of the documents in order of importance and chronology: the basic agreement, the implementation annex and the draft statute for which I had sent my remarks two days earlier.
It was a big chance. Those in the European Union who were very interested, for example, in the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority, namely in the proposed draft statute, had the chance. The President of Serbia, who constantly mentions the Association, had the chance.
But it wasn't for lack of willingness on my part, so there's no point in continuing to ask me more. So one must ask them there why they missed such a good chance. I was ready to sign, now am I serious? What could be more serious than saying let's sign tonight. There is no more seriousness than that in international relations and international agreements. There, the non-seriousness came out to the Serbian side, which did not sign", said Kurti.
Kurti also stated that Serbia has withdrawn from its basic agreement and this, according to him, is an obstacle to the normalization of relations between the two countries.
The Prime Minister of Kosovo said that in March, when he was discussing with Vučič about the annex to the implementation of the agreement on the path to the normalization of relations, he had proposed to write the draft statute of the Association himself, but it was not allowed.
"On March 18, I proposed to write the draft statute with three principles, but he said no. That was the time when it was said that both sides must agree", concluded Kurti.
We recall that, on October 26, he expressed his willingness to sign for the establishment of the Association according to the proposal of the internationals.
