Are more arrests expected? The Hague Prosecutor's Office conducts

The Office of the Specialized Prosecutor in The Hague said it is conducting operations in Kosovo, without giving more details.

Radio Free Europe asked the ZPS if Hajredin Kuçi, a member of the defense team of former speaker Kadri Veseli, has been arrested, but this institution did not answer this question.

REL learns that Kuçi was escorted to the offices of the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX) on March 7, but it is not known whether he was arrested or is only being questioned by the officials of the Specialized Prosecution.

Kuçi, in the past, has held high state positions, including that of the Minister of Justice at the time when the deputies of the Assembly of Kosovo voted in 2015 for the establishment of the Specialized Chambers in The Hague and the Office of the Specialized Prosecutor, otherwise known as the Court Special.

On March 7, the media in Kosovo reported that they are raiding the house of Sylejman Selim, the former commander-in-chief of the Kosovo Liberation Army.

For these cases, REL has addressed EULEX, but this institution has not yet returned a response.

In the Special Court, several trials are currently underway against the former senior superiors of the Kosovo Liberation Army. So far, the court has sentenced the former superior of the KLA, Salih Mustafa, to 22 years in prison for war crimes, and two former figures of the KLA Veterans Organization, Hysni Gucati and Nasim Haradinaj.

Among the ongoing trials is the one against Vesel, former Speaker of Parliament Jakup Krasniqi, former President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, and former MP Rexhep Selimi. They are jointly indicted for war crimes and crimes against humanity, charges they have denied.

The Specialized Chambers and the Specialized Prosecutor's Office investigate alleged crimes committed by members of the Kosovo Liberation Army against ethnic minorities and political rivals from January 1998 to December 2000.

The court was established in 2015 by the Assembly of Kosovo and is part of the judicial system of Kosovo, but operates with international personnel and is headquartered in The Hague./rel
