The former President of the Republic of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga, has reacted publicly following media reports linking her name to the "Epstein" dossier, recently published by the US Department of Justice.
In an official clarification, Jahjaga described these reports as untrue, unfounded and misleading to public opinion.
"Media reports about my "connection" with the "Epstein" file are completely unfounded and untrue. As President of the Republic of Kosovo, I have never had any acquaintance, meeting or any kind of contact with the person in question. The mention of my name by the media in the case of the recently published documents is only related to an electronic correspondence of third parties, which does not constitute and does not prove any meeting, acquaintance or personal connection with me. My name is nowhere mentioned in any kind of published document.
"This third-party email mentions the President of Kosovo, but it is not clear who, and there is no mention of a request for a meeting on his or her behalf. Any reporting to the contrary is insinuation and deception of the public, as can be easily seen from the documents. I request that this clarification be given to the media that have distorted my name, especially since I have neither known, nor met, nor requested a meeting with the person in question in any position I have held so far," the former president explains.
The former president's reaction comes after the publication, on January 29, of thousands of documents from the Epstein dossier by US authorities. Among them is an email from 2012, where a person named "Daniel", whose identity remains unknown, mentions the "President of Kosovo" in a general context, without a specific name and without evidence of any meeting. At that time, the office of President of Kosovo was held by Atifete Jahjaga, which has prompted speculation and media reports, which she has categorically denied.
