Oscar winner Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa have been found dead in their home in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
During his career, which spanned more than six decades, he won two Oscars, two Bafta, four Golden Globes and a Screen Actors Guild Award.
Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza confirmed the news to local media shortly after midnight on Wednesday that the couple had died along with their dog.
A statement from the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office in New Mexico said: "We can confirm that Gene Hackman and his wife were found dead Wednesday afternoon at their residence on Sunset Trail."
Hackman passed away at the age of 95, while his wife was 63.
Hackman won an Oscar for best actor for his role as Jimmy "Popeye" Doyle in the 1971 thriller The French Connection, and another for best supporting actor for his role as Little Bill Daggett in the 1992 film Unforgiven.
