Renowned Greek singer Giorgos Mazonakis has decided to take strong legal steps after his involuntary admission to the "Dromokaïtio" psychiatric hospital, accusing some of his closest people of 'false testimony and slander'.
According to his lawyer, Giorgos Merkoulidis, the artist will file criminal charges on Friday, September 12, against several members of his family – including his sister Maria – and a mutual friend, who, according to him, made false statements that led to his forced hospitalization.
"It is painful for Giorgos, but inevitable. We are talking about a brutal intervention in his life, freedom and personality," the lawyer said in an interview with "Live News".
Merkoulidis added that the psychiatric admission was made based on statements that portrayed Mazonakis as dangerous to himself and others – which, according to him, is completely untrue.
"The entire process has been illegal and abusive. It is a direct violation of his dignity and reputation. This will not remain without legal consequences," he concluded.
