The trial of Sean “Diddy” Combs is entering its final stages, with a jury expected to begin deliberating on Monday to reach a verdict. The 55-year-old music producer and businessman is charged with five felony counts that carry a maximum sentence of life in prison if convicted.
During the high-profile trial in Manhattan federal court, two of his former partners, singer Cassandra “Cassie” Ventura and a woman known as “Jane,” testified that they were forced to participate in sex acts with paid male escorts that Combs would watch, record and coordinate. The acts, known as “Freak Offs,” were allegedly carried out under emotional and physical duress.
Jurors also saw unedited security camera footage of Cobbs attacking Ventura at a hotel in 2016. “Cassie told you she always had his violence in mind when he suggested a ‘Freak Off.’ His intention was to scare her,” prosecutor Kristi Slavik said in her closing argument.
The defense, on the other hand, acknowledged that there were incidents of domestic violence but denied any evidence of coercion. Defense attorney Mark Anifillo argued that the acts were consensual and based on a long-term romantic relationship. “If this were a domestic violence case, we wouldn’t all be here,” he said in his closing argument.
Combs, the founder of Bad Boy Records and an iconic figure in hip-hop, has been held in a federal prison in Brooklyn since September 2024. Jury deliberations have no set duration and any verdict requires unanimity.
