Tammy Slaton, one of the most popular figures on reality television, has made headlines in foreign tabloids again after her impressive transformation, losing over 540 lbs (about 245 kilograms) since the beginning of her journey in 2020.
Known for her role on the TLC series “1000-Lb Sisters,” Tammy and her sister Amy began documenting their battle with extreme obesity, with a combined weight of over 1,000 lb. Tammy, at her peak, weighed 725 lb (about 330 kg) and needed an oxygen tube to breathe.
Now, at age 38, Tammy has not only lost about 500 lbs through great efforts and gastric bypass surgery performed in July 2022, but she has also recently taken another important step: surgery to remove excess skin.
TLC released a heartwarming clip of Tammy and her family preparing for the surgery — a procedure that took about 30 minutes and involved removing 15 lbs (about 7 kg) of excess skin from her face, neck, arms and stomach. The surgeon explains that no fat was removed, just skin, which he says would cover an area of more than three square meters.
The footage of the surgery is detailed and shows the complexity of the procedure. After the procedure, Tammy experiences her new body for the first time – seeing a part of her midsection she had never seen before and a completely new neckline. “It’s going to take me a while to get used to seeing myself like this,” she said excitedly after her recovery.
Her journey hasn't been easy. Tammy has battled food addiction, made several stints in rehab, and experienced the loss of her husband, Caleb Willingham, in 2023, at the age of 40.
However, she managed to lose enough weight to qualify for bariatric surgery, and now, after a complete transformation, she shares her confidence and emotions with the world. “I lost three versions of myself,” she told Ezell Film Company. “When I look at my current photos, I think: wow.”
In an interview with People magazine, Tammy confessed to the strong emotions before the latest surgery: "The night before the surgery, I was terribly scared. It was scarier than the gastric bypass, because this time they were cutting out the whole stomach."
Today, Tammy Slaton is stronger than ever, becoming an inspiration to hundreds of thousands of people around the world facing similar challenges.
