During her appearance on "Podfest", singer and 2024 Song Festival jury member, Jonida Maliqi, returned to the discussions that have circulated since last year about her relationship with Elvana Gjata.
The rumored tensions began on voting night, when Jonida ranked Elvana second with the song "Carnival", while a smile she gave at the moment the scores were read went viral and was widely interpreted on social media.
In the conversation with Olti Curri, Maliqi was asked directly if she had faced attacks from Elvana's fans. She paused for a long time in her answer, linking this situation to previous controversies.
She recalled that the criticism against her began years ago, during the edition when Arilena Ara won the festival.
According to her, such misunderstandings often arise from the publication of artistic opinions:
" They attacked me at the beginning, before Shkodra Elektronika, when Arilena Ara won. At that time, I was coming from the 2018 Festival and in 2019 I had to give the trophy and I had to give it to Arilena. Then, they invite me to the post-festival, where I express myself as an artist. And people confuse this, absurd scenarios are usually created, not only by the public, but also by the media, that have to do with the personal side. The personal side has nothing to do with it. And just because I said 'Arilena's song, according to my musical tastes, is the winning song' ."
At this point, Curri provoked her with a direct comment: "so, you've come out against Elvana twice, artistically."
Maliqi admitted that artistically it may have been perceived this way, but emphasized that this is not related to personal relationships at all:
" Artistically, maybe yes, but personally, we need to clarify once and for all, I have known Elvana since a very young age. She doesn't need my praise at all because if she is where she is, it is thanks to her attributes. She is an artist that I have always appreciated, but if I don't like the song, it has nothing to do with who this singer is, it has only to do with the musical material. "
In conclusion, she expressed respect and congratulations for the continuation of Gjata's career, adding that she believes that Elvana "would continue for a few more decades" on the Albanian music scene.
