Kim Kardashian has opened up about her love life and the emotional barriers she faces in falling in love again following her divorce from Kanye West. On the new episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, the businesswoman opened up about how fame, public exposure and media pressure shaped her path to fame.
During a conversation with her "All's Fair" co-star Sarah Paulson, Kim explained that spending up to 16 hours a day on set surrounded by close colleagues makes it inevitable that they see how she deals with family crises, problems with her children, and constant media attention.
According to Paulson, years in front of the cameras forced Kim to develop an exaggerated awareness of her behavior and maintain an emotional shield to protect herself. This constant exposure, coupled with her later marriage and desire to keep her children out of the media fray, led to her becoming increasingly isolated.
During the conversation, Paulson told him directly that her life in the public eye led her to live under an invisible pressure: the constant need to appear strong. This “emotional wall,” she explained, not only protected her from public opinion, but also from the emotional impact of her relationship.
Paulson said Kim has tried to shield her children from the media reality, which has further deepened her tendency to self-isolate. However, she also offered words of encouragement, noting that when the big romance she deserves comes, she will be able to open up if she works on desensitizing herself and allowing herself some vulnerability.
Kim admitted in a confessional that she understands what Paulson is trying to tell her: that she has built up that wall as a defense mechanism to avoid getting hurt. When Hulu producers mentioned how difficult it must be to live knowing that everyone has an opinion about her personal life, the businesswoman responded that she is used to it. “It has been my life for so long,” she said.
Kim also explained that, over time, you get used to being single, to your privacy, and to your routines, which makes it harder to imagine going back to sharing intimacy with someone else. However, she made it clear that she's still a hopeless romantic. "When the right person comes along, I'll be more than ready," she said.
Kim and Kanye West split in 2021 after almost seven years of marriage, and their divorce was finalized in 2022. They have four children: North, 12, Saint, nine, Chicago, seven, and Psalm, six.
