The ritual returns after 13 years/ 200 waiters compete in Paris with trays in

After 13 years, the waiter competition returned to Paris. About 200 uniformed professionals ran with trays in their hands, covering 2 km through the Marais district around the City Hall.

On the tray each one held 1 glass of water, a coffee and a croissant. The rules were simple: tray in one hand only; no running; and not a crumb or drop to spill.

Hundreds of spectators had gathered to watch the unusual race, which is actually a traditional spectacle of the city. However, it had been more than 1 decade, that such an event had not been realized, due to the lack of sponsors.

The race also had a winner, who managed to touch the bar first, however, the jury to announce the best will also take into account whether coffee or water has been spilled.

"I love this job as much as I hate it. It's on my skin. I can't leave it. It is difficult. It's exhausting. It is demanding. It's 12 hours a day. But “it's part of my DNA. I kind of grew up with a tray in my hand," said Van Wymeersch, the winner in the women's category, who broke the record in 14 minutes and 12 seconds.

The competition of waiters started for the first time in 1914. Part of it are the waiters and waitresses of the most famous and much-loved bars of Paris, who wait and escort hundreds of thousands of visitors with skill.
