
Susana Jamaladinova, a Ukrainian singer of Crimean Tatar descent known professionally as Jamala, is now on Russia's most wanted list.
Russia's Ministry of Internal Affairs accuses the 40-year-old Eurovision winner (in 2016) of discrediting Moscow's military after spreading false information, Russian news website Mediazona reported.
The media said Moscow put Jamala on its wanted list in October, and in November the singer was tried in absentia by a Russian court.
Jamala, a vocal critic of Russia's occupation of its Crimean peninsula and occupation of Ukraine, won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2016 with the song "1944," which is about the deportation and ethnic cleansing of some 200,000 Tatars in Crimea committed by Soviet authorities, May 1944.
Jamala, who is currently on a fundraising and awareness tour in Australia, where she moved after Russia invaded Ukraine years ago. She reacted to the news by posting an Instagram story of herself outside the Sydney Opera House, with a face emoji.
