The famous actor and director, Tom Hanks, gave a very honest interview on the podcast "On Purpose with Jay Shetty". The 68-year-old talked about the mistakes he made in raising his four children.
Hanks admitted he wasn't the perfect father, saying he made "every possible mistake" and that his behavior led to difficult conversations with his children as they grew up.
Hanks has two older children, Colin and Elizabeth, with his first wife, Samantha Lewis, and two more, Chet and Truman, with his current wife, Rita Wilson.
"As they grew up, it was time for me to come back and say, 'I can talk about how 'terrible' I've been all these years,"' said the famous actor in the said interview.
Tom also said that despite his faults, family life and the joys they shared are priceless.
"All this is worth more than gold," he said. The actor has admitted that through his children he has learned that every child is unique and has different needs and preferences.
Tom Hanks also recalled a special moment with his youngest son, Truman, when he promised him a walk to the park to play baseball and didn't keep his promise.
"He was about 7 or 8 years old and I said, 'We're going to the park to play baseball,' but my commitments delayed me and we missed the opportunity," he recalls.
When he apologized to his son, Truman dejectedly replied, "It's okay, Dad," leaving Hanks remorseful.
Despite Truman's disappointment, his reaction helped Hanks understand the autonomy and independence of his children. As he explains: "They never said they were bored, they always find something to do with enthusiasm, whether I understand it or not."
