After an anonymous user on the TikTok network created a song using artificial intelligence that many people thought was the making of music stars, experts say the music industry needs to find a way to address the issue.
The lyrics, beat and vocals of a song posted on Twitter by anonymous user "Ghostwriter977" sounded just like famous musicians Drake and The Weeknd.
"Heart on my Sleeve", created by artificial intelligence, wowed art lovers, but on the other hand irritated industry executives. Experts say that it is not difficult to use artificial intelligence to create.
'Voice of America' spoke to Professor Rebbecca Fiebrink from the University of the Arts in London.
"When a computer has some sort of understanding of the patterns underlying sound in general, it doesn't necessarily take a lot of input from The Weeknd to produce sounds that sound like him."
The music company Universal Music Group, which represents both artists, released a statement emphasizing the need to protect the artists' music. The song was removed from many networks. Experts say such AI experiments are just the beginning.
VOA spoke with Mr. Ge Wang, with the Center for Computational Research in Music and Acoustics at Stanford University.
"There is no going back. We have to learn how to live better with it."
Professor Wang expresses concern about the speed at which Artificial Intelligence is developing.
"The way we communicate, work or govern is at risk. The way of making art is at risk".
Professor Fiebrink says the music industry will have to decide how to combat or use artificial intelligence.
"Are they going to decide that the best way to make money is to produce songs with AI, which doesn't involve the artists, so they can make more for themselves and not pay the singers?"
