Cassie first tried to settle her differences with ex-partner P. Diddy out of court and after seeing that was not possible, she took legal action against him.
The singer offered the music producer an out-of-court settlement to avoid going to court, but despite the efforts of her legal team, it appeared Diddy was unwilling to compensate her for the abuse she suffered.
Speaking on the "Law & Crime, Rise and Fall of Diddy" podcast, attorney Donde Mills addressed the case of Cassie, who the rapper was seen abusing on hotel security cameras.
"Before filing any charges, Cassie first went to him and talked to him. "She told him 'I think I've been wronged by you' and gave him a chance to settle the case without going to court," the lawyer said.
He then added, "I know that both Combs' attorneys and Cassie's attorneys have been in discussions to see if they can settle the lawsuit, but those negotiations have fallen through."
In November 2023, Cassie finally filed a lawsuit against him, accusing him of rape and forcing her to have sex. Finally, she sued him for bodily injury caused to her during their relationship.
"After years of silence and obscurity, I'm finally ready to tell my story and speak up for and on behalf of other women who face violence and abuse in their relationships," the singer said in a statement at the time.
