Aston Villa were eliminated from the Champions League despite a good performance against PSG at Villa Park, a match won 3-2 by Emery's team.
The English club's sporting director, Damia Vidagani, has criticized the refereeing of Sánchez Martinez, who, according to him, has given many fouls, especially in favor of the French team:
" The pace that Spanish referees impose in a match is not good, for the fouls they give, which in our opinion have been mainly in favor of the opposing team. There have been many interruptions of the game ," Vidagani told "Cadena Cope".
The Villa manager also criticized the referees' behavior after the match:
" I went to ask the fourth official about the extra time given and his arrogant attitude. Donaruma wasted time and the three minutes of extra time were ridiculous. I don't hold them responsible for the elimination because we had time to score another goal, but that decision was not normal. The way of refereeing in Spain is different and there are many interventions by the referees. They don't help the flow of the match ."
