French police have arrested 17 Feyenoord fans, while 64 others have been turned back at the border, after the Dutch club's fans were previously banned from traveling to France for the Champions League match against Edon Zhegrova's Lille. The ban was imposed by the French Interior Ministry.
" 64 people claiming to be Feyenoord fans have been denied entry to France and 17 people have been arrested ," local authorities said in a statement on Wednesday.
" Several pyrotechnic devices and weapons have been seized by police officers during night raids carried out since Tuesday afternoon. Checks will be carried out throughout the day ," they added.
The French Interior Ministry reported repeated violent incidents by Feyenoord supporters in France, including clashes in Nancy in 2006 and Marseille in 2022, which led to arrests, injuries and significant damage to public property.
Earlier, commenting on the decision to ban Feyenoord fans from travelling to Lille, the Dutch club said in a statement:
“ This decision came despite significant efforts by the club, including taking the matter to UEFA and presenting a detailed plan that Feyenoord believed would allow 2,000 visitors to travel to Lille in a safe and responsible manner. “Feyenoord is extremely disappointed that the summary procedure was not resolved in the club’s favour, but they can do nothing other than accept the result .”/“ Protothema ”, adapted in Albanian by “ Pamfleti ”
According to the préfecture du Nord, 64 supporters of Feyenoord have been prevented from entering the French territory and 17 people have been arrested and placed under arrest. Le dispositif de sécurité restera en place toute la journée de mercredi.
