Reliance Animation, a subsidiary of India's Reliance Entertainment, has secured the intellectual property rights of the characters for the production of an animated series based on the turbulent life of the late football legend, Diego Maradona.
The Mumbai-based film studio will create a scripted series for streaming and television platforms. The series will chronicle Maradona's extraordinary journey, from his early years to his rise to the top of world football.
The series aims to explore key moments in his career, personal struggles and his enormous cultural impact both on and off the field.
International collaborations and timeline
The project is already in development. The partnership to secure the rights was reached, according to Variety, in collaboration with SATTVICA SA, the Argentina-based company that owns Maradona's intellectual property rights, and the mediation of Bridge Marketing Group Inc.
Details regarding the creative team, distribution partners, and release schedule are expected to be announced soon.
