At the FIFA Virtual Congress, held this Wednesday, it was voted that the 2034 World Cup will officially be organized in Saudi Arabia. In addition, the 2030 World Cup will be held in three countries, Spain, Portugal and Morocco; while the first three matches will take place in Montevideo (Uruguay), Buenos Aires (Argentina) and Asuncion (Paraguay).
2030 World Cup
FIFA and its members voted for the 2030 World Cup to be held in Spain, Portugal and Morocco, while the three opening matches will be played in three Latin American countries. Because 2030 is a jubilee year, due to the fact that 100 years ago the first World Cup was held in Uruguay, it will be Montevideo (Uruguay), Buenos Aires (Argentina) and Asuncion (Paraguay) that will host the three opening matches. This will be the first time that the World Cup takes place on three different continents.
World Cup 2034
Saudi Arabia was the only candidate for the development of this tournament and it was already made official that the 2034 World Cup will be held in this country. After Qatar 2022, this is the second World Cup to be held in the Gulf countries.
Saudi Arabia already hosts several high-profile events, including a Formula 1 Grand Prix, heavyweight boxing events, the rival LIV golf competition funded by Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund and the UTA Finals tennis.
The 2034 World Cup will take place in five cities and 15 stadiums, some of which will be built from the ground up.
It is expected that there will be protests regarding the organization of this event in Saudi Arabia, as many groups that protect Human Rights have come out against it.
