The 19-year-old Inter fan, part of the Viking ultras group, has been arrested by Digos (Italian special operations police) for throwing fireworks during the Cremonese-Inter match last Sunday.
The firecracker that exploded near goalkeeper Emil Audero, who fell to the ground in a confused state, caused the match to be suspended for several minutes, allowing medical staff to intervene.
The arrested fan, who was part of the Viking group of Inter fans, was placed under arrest by the Milan Prosecutor, Francesco Kajani, following investigations carried out by the State Police of the Cremona Headquarters. After the analysis of security cameras and other investigations, it was possible to identify the author of the firework, which exploded a short distance from the Cremonese goalkeeper. The incident occurred a few minutes after the start of the second half of the match.
The firecracker exploded very close to Audero, leaving him lying on the ground and causing great disturbance in the stadium. The match was immediately suspended to allow the goalkeeper to receive medical treatment, and then the medical team helped him regain consciousness. According to authorities, Audero appeared confused, but after treatment, he was able to continue participating in the match.
The investigation into the incident is still ongoing. Cremona Digos police are working to identify other fans who may have set off fireworks shortly before kick-off. The incident is another example of the violence and dangers that are spreading in Italian football stadiums, prompting authorities to step up measures against violence and the escalation of such situations.
The 19-year-old fan, who has no criminal record in connection with the stadium violence investigation, was placed under a suspended arrest and will appear before the court at Milan's San Vittore prison to testify and determine further measures. The hearing to confirm the arrest will take place tomorrow, and after questioning, the investigating judge will decide on his future.
