Investigation into Maradona's death takes a turn, the Argentine football

The investigation into Diego Maradona's death has taken a dramatic turn. Argentine prosecutors have requested the arrest of the late footballer's former bodyguard, Julio Coria.

This is because, as he was testifying in court, the prosecutor in the case noticed changes in his testimony, raising suspicions that he was giving false testimony.

Coria was present on the day Diego Maradona died and performed mouth-to-mouth resuscitation until the doctors arrived. The prosecution interrupted the bodyguard's testimony several times and requested his arrest, pointing out "contradictions" in his testimony, claiming that the witness "lied". The judges considered the prosecutor's complaint regarding the crime of perjury, for which he is punishable by up to 10 years in prison if found guilty.

We recall that several doctors, a psychiatrist, a psychologist and several nurses are on trial for negligence that potentially contributed to the death of Diego Maradona on November 25, 2020. The bodyguard stated that he had not spoken to Leopoldo Luke, Maradona's personal doctor, who is also accused.

Maradona and the accused

Koria also said that psychiatrist Agustina Kosatsov, also accused, tried to revive Diego Maradona, something he had not mentioned in his previous statements.

Gianna, one of Maradona's daughters, who along with the deceased's four other children and her aunts have filed a negligence lawsuit, testified that she had visited her father with her sister a week before his death. But that day, she said, "he was in a bad mood" and the psychologist advised them not to visit him until he asked to see them.

She also told the court that her father was "swollen" and stressed that she had noticed, as other witnesses before her have already pointed out, that there was no medical equipment in the house.

The owner of the mansion where Diego Maradona died also testified on Tuesday. Santiago Xorelo said the late footballer's aides had told him that an ambulance would be present in the area of the house during his stay, but on several occasions that he had visited the area between November 10 and 25, he had not seen one.

At the beginning of the trial, in his opening statement, prosecutor Patricio Ferrari called the death a "murder", and a medical treatment that turned into a "drama", as the medical team did not do its job.

It is noted that all defendants deny any responsibility for Maradona's death.
