Kosovo will organize the Mediterranean Games in 2030. This was decided on Friday by the General Assembly of the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games (ICMG), which was held in Heraklion, Greece.
The candidacy of Kosovo, namely Pristina, was presented by Prime Minister Albin Kurti, the president of the Olympic Committee of Kosovo, Ismet Krasniqi and the general secretary of the KOK, Besim Aliti.
Other government officials were also present. Kosovo's candidacy also received support from Albania, where some of the events will be held.
An ICMG commission that had stayed in Kosovo a few weeks ago also gave positive assessments of Kosovo's candidacy. Previously, the Assembly changed the regulation that prohibited landlocked countries from organizing the Mediterranean Games.
Athletes from 26 countries participate in the Mediterranean Games. Kosovo is expected to invest over 250 million euros for the organization of this major sporting event.
"Prishtina 2030" will be the 21st edition of the Mediterranean Games. Many countries that do not recognize Kosovo participate in this event.
