Lara Colturi is the headline of Albanian-Italian skiing in these last days of the possibility of changing the state she will represent in the future.
Her desire, expressed to the Albanian Ski Federation to move to Italy, has ignited the atmosphere in the neighboring country, to have one of the world's greatest female alpine skiing talents in her country of origin. This could happen in the most important year of this sport, the year of the Winter Olympics taking place in Milan-Cortina 2026.
The President of the Ski Federation, Elvis Toçi, tells "Top Channel" more about the situation:
" Lara Colturi is a child of two Italian parents, so she is a naturalized Albanian Italian. Representing your country, your language, in the year of the Olympics that take place precisely in Italy and being in your own country, I do not see anything abnormal in this story. But one thing is very normal: we will defend our interests, as a nation and as a Federation.
"Despite the fact that Lara was created by her parents, despite the fact that Lara is a "Made in Italy" product, without Albania, without our Ski Federation, Lara Colturi would not be in this 'square' ."
In other words, Lara Colturi cannot leave without the permission of our Federation, otherwise all the points she has accumulated to date will be nullified and she will have to take a year off.
However, are finances the crux of this situation?
" Of course, finances in a capitalist world are very important. Without finances, we would not force an athlete to stay either. We have received a promise from the Albanian government, from Mr. Edi Rama - we have been promised 300,000 euros.
"We are making an extraordinary effort to find the budget to have a serious contract, to keep Lara Coltur. We, as a nation, have not been ready to have an athlete of this caliber in our midst ," says Toçi.
Anyway, with Lara or not, how will Albania be represented at the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics?
" It is very important with Lara, because Lara, being in the top 10 in the world, can open a place for another female athlete. Albania can surprise if Lara Colturi continues to stay with us, because from Lara Colturi's very good ranking, we can have one or two bonuses."
