Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has joined Mohamed Salah in putting pen to paper on a new two-year contract at Anfield Road.
Despite much speculation over the future of the Reds stars, the pair will now remain at Anfield until the end of the 2027 season. The Reds are closing in on a second consecutive Premier League title and the 20th English league trophy in history.
Viewed by many as the best defender in world football, it was imperative that Arne Slot's pillar reach a new contract extension.
By signing for two additional seasons at Anfield, Van Dijk's stay will be extended to nine-and-a-half years in total, having made a record move from Southampton in January 2018 to Liverpool.
Now the fears of Liverpool fans are gone, as Van Dijk, Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold were set to leave at the end of the season, but two of them have renewed.
Virgil van Dijk will now be the highest-paid defender in the world. Journalist David Ornstein reports that the Dutchman will earn around £400,000-a-week with his new contract.
