Angel Torres, the president of Getafe, has once again revealed sensational behind-the-scenes details that could have changed the history of football. He revealed that he had reached preliminary agreements for both Pep Guardiola, then coach of Barcelona B, and for a loan for Leo Messi:
" Barcelona took Laudrup and I wanted Guardiola. I spoke to his brother, we reached an agreement in principle. Guardiola would have triumphed at Getafe, because he is a 'monster' as a coach ."
Regarding Messi, he recalled: " On August 18, I went to the 'Camp Nou' with my sporting director, Alfredo Duro. We had a preliminary agreement, but Rijkaard wouldn't let him go, as he had an injured player and wanted to give him minutes. For so little we returned without Messi ."
