Bolivia's national football team has been embroiled in a doping scandal that could cost them up to seven points in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Everything became known after players Boris Cespedes and Ramiro Vaca tested positive for doping.
Authorities are also investigating the involvement of players in three key matches. They are a 1-0 win against Colombia, a 0-0 draw with Uruguay and a 2-0 home win over Chile. These results have earned Bolivia no fewer than 7 points.
Cespedes admitted to using a banned substance after the draw with Uruguay on March 3, 2025. He is currently suspended, pending FIFA's final decision, which could result in a ban of up to two years.
Vaca's case carries greater suspicion. He was suspended by CONMEBOL after testing positive in May during a doping test conducted after a Copa Libertadores match with his club, Bolivar.
