From Tirana's 'Mother Teresa' airport with a charter flight to Niš in Serbia. This is the itinerary that the National Team will travel this morning on the eve of the match against Serbia, which will be played tomorrow (October 11) at 20:45 at the 'Duboçica' stadium in Leskovac and applies to Group K of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
After arriving at the 'Constantine the Great' airport in Nis, the Albanian delegation and the team will head to the hotel. A few hours of rest for the red and blacks, before the bus heads to the stadium in Leskovac.
Since arriving in Niš, the red-and-black delegation will be accompanied by numerous police forces and a large security force, to avoid any kind of threat from Serbian hooligans. The organizers' biggest fear is security and the repetition of acts of violence like on October 14, 2014, when Serbian hooligans entered the field and raped Albanian football players.
Today at 16:30, Sylvinho and probably captain Gjimshiti (or Hysaj, the only one who has been in the team since the Belgrade evening in 2014), will appear before the media. After 17:30, the team will descend to the field of the 'Duboçica' stadium in Leskovac to conduct general training.
The team will be accompanied by Serbian police throughout the entire itinerary, as well as throughout their stay at the hotel. Even on Saturday morning, no departure from the hotel is scheduled for our team.
On Saturday afternoon, the team will head to Leskovac again for the match that will take place on October 11 at 20:45.
The match was deemed a high-risk match by FIFA, which sent two security officers. In addition to moving the match from Belgrade to Leskovac due to fears of hooligans and the tense political climate in Serbia, the Serbian Football Federation did not put any tickets on sale.
The 6,500 Serbian fans in Leskovac will be invited and selected, including players from football academies. Serbia is condemned to hold this duel with a 20 percent reduction in stadium capacity. Based on an agreement between the two federations, there will be no opposing fans in the Serbia - Albania matches and vice versa.
After five matches in Group K of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, England are top of the table with 15 points, eight ahead of Albania. Serbia are third with seven points, but have one game in hand. Latvia (4 points) and Andorra (0 points) are next.
Yesterday, the Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs announced that a 53-year-old Albanian man was arrested at the Merdara border crossing point after he had five bags of national red and black clothing and symbols in his van. According to Serbian police, the destination was Leskovac, but there will be no Albanian fans in the stadium for Saturday's match.
