Lamine Jamal is not yet a legend and the road to reaching the level of figures like Pele, Maradona or Messi remains long. However, the 18-year-old talent is setting standards that are exciting Barcelona fans and turning him into one of the most important names in the team this season.
His form has seen a noticeable increase, turning Jamal into a key player for the Catalans. Spanish daily El Mundo Deportivo notes that he has exceeded expectations in both goals and assists, becoming the engine that pulls the entire team forward.
So far, Jamal has scored 14 goals and provided 13 assists in all competitions, including La Liga and the Champions League, in 29 games played. This means that his goal contribution is almost one per game, while his impact on the game goes beyond the numbers.
At the age of 18, Jamal has scored 39 goals for Barcelona since making his debut with the first team, a figure that Lionel Messi did not reach at the same age. He has also surpassed Diego Armando Maradona's goal total for Barcelona, which stood at 38.
However, the comparison requires caution. Maradona scored 38 goals in 58 matches, while Jamal needed 135 appearances to reach this figure. Meanwhile, Messi needed 98 matches to score 38 goals.
In terms of trophies, Jamal has won the European Championship with Spain, two La Liga titles with Barcelona, the Copa del Rey and two Spanish Super Cups, all with the Catalan club.
