It was Halloween, so in the US you could see people on the streets with big knives, artificial ones of course. Or at least in most cases, because one person had a real knife in his hand with which he attacked a man in front of the car. But the target misfired unfortunately for the aggressor, as the chosen person turned out to be former MMA fighter Javier Baez.
As the "New York Post" writes, the attacker is called Omar Marrero (50 years old), and he hit the driver's door window and tried to get into the car when Baez was sitting inside, and the MMA fighter got out of the car and tried to calm the situation. However, he did not succeed.
" A man was shouting on the phone arguing with a woman. He knocked on the car window and I told him to leave me alone and he came back with a knife. I told him again to leave me alone, called the police and hoped he wouldn't break my window. That's the only thing I was thinking about ," Baez said.
Marrero tried to attack him with a knife, but failed as he quickly ended up on the ground. Baez knocked him down and even in an unusual way, more characteristic of grapplers than MMA fighters. But the most important thing is that it worked.
" When you train so much, it becomes a reflex. I didn't have to do anything but react, it was instinctive. I have trained all my life, I have a black belt in jiu-jitsu. I fought in college, I have eight professional fights and great training partners ," explained the former MMA fighter.
He held the attacker on the ground until the police arrived and left unharmed.
