It's the first time that the opening ceremony isn't held in a stadium and it's really exposing most of Paris.
The opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics has begun with a video interlude showing people handing over the Olympic flame in an empty Stade de France, only to realize the ceremony is on the River Seine.
Football legend and World Cup winner Zinedine Zidane appeared on screen lighting the Olympic torch.

The Olympic torch will soon arrive in Paris, where it will pass through the Olympic Village before ending its journey under perhaps France's most recognizable symbol: the Eiffel Tower.

Covered in large pink and black feathers, Lady Gaga descended the steps into the River Seine and began her performance at the opening ceremony.
"Bonsoir et bienvenue à Paris," she said, which translates to: "Good evening and welcome to Paris."
Gaga performed a new take on "Mon truc en plumes" by iconic French artist Zizi Jeanmaire.

As is customary, the torch is lit in Olympia, Greece, the ancient site of the Olympic Games. He then travels through a relay to Greece, passing through the Western Peloponnese, Crete and the Acropolis.
The torch then crossed the Mediterranean to arrive in Marseille, a port city in the south of the country. The torch will pass through several quintessential French monuments, including Lascaux Caves, Mont Saint-Michel, the medieval city of Carcassone, the Palace of Versailles and the D-Day Landing Beaches.
The torch is making the final stop on its journey from Greece to Paris by swimming along the river before the official lighting of the Olympic flame.

The torch will be carried by the Greek team. It's the first time that the opening ceremony isn't held in a stadium and it's really exposing most of Paris.
