UEFA has backtracked and today officially confirmed that it will not hold the 2027 Champions League final at the San Siro stadium as originally approved. The decision came from the meeting of the UEFA Executive Committee, which once again opened the process to search for the organizer of such a final.
The clubs and the municipality of Milan had not agreed on the stadium reconstruction project, as Milan and Inter did not want to invest in a plant which, according to them, should be rebuilt from scratch.
According to UEFA, since the municipality of Milan did not guarantee the planned reconstruction of the plant and the surrounding area, then it was impossible to plan the development of a final in 2027. Thus, the final was removed from Milan and by June 2025 it would be scheduled the name of the new stadium that would hold this challenge. Now the Italians are doing their best to hold this final in Italy, passing it at the "Olimpico" stadium in Rome.
