Until nine years ago, when he was 79, Sep Blatter was still the president of FIFA. And it has been for 17 years, from 1998 to 2015. The Swiss entrepreneur is now retired, and it could not be otherwise, both because of his age and because of the six-year suspension after being accused of corruption.
In January 2021, his health problems worsened and the former world football number one was forced to undergo a very delicate cardiac operation, after which he was in an induced coma for a week. Today, Blatter recounted those days in a beautiful interview given to "The Telegraph":
" I had hallucinations. I saw that the angels were coming to take me and they wanted to take me. No, I'm not ready to leave." I was in a coma and I remember there were two lovely ladies in white looking after me, I was on a respirator which they then had to change.
There were angels in my dream. You must come, you must die now. They are waiting for you in heaven." It took me more than three months to realize that I was still alive ."
