The defender of England, Harry McGuire, became the object of insults and ridicule during the friendly match with Scotland.
During England's 3-1 friendly win over Scotland on Tuesday, Maguire was jeered by Scottish fans every time he touched the ball after coming on as a second-half substitute.
The coach of the "Three Lions", Gareth Southgate was furious after the match, claiming that the taunts were a consequence of the treatment he received in English football.
" It's a shame. I've never known a player to be treated like that. Not by the Scottish fans, by our commentators, the pundits, whatever. It's beyond anything I've ever seen ."
" He's been an absolute stalwart for us in England's second most successful team for decades, he's been absolutely a key part of that ," Southgate said.
Many have come to his defense, as his mother, Zoi Meguajer, has recently reacted.
" As a mother, seeing the amount of negative comments and insults my son receives from some fans and commentators is completely unacceptable. It's the same for every kind of person and it's the same for anyone who works representing a club and a country.
This is not acceptable. I understand that in the world of football there are ups and downs, good times and bad, but what is happening with Herr goes beyond football. It's not fair to me to see what you're going through.
I would hate to see parents or players face this problem in the future, especially boys and girls. Herri has a big heart and I'm happy that he remains strong and can handle this, but I wouldn't wish this abuse on anyone ," Meguajer's mother writes on social networks.
