This is the dramatic moment when the German police neutralize a man who appeared threatening with an ax in his hand, while he also had a Molotov cocktail
Video footage shows the man, carrying a backpack, in the neighborhood where tens of thousands of Dutch fans were taking part in a peaceful march just hours before the Netherlands clash with Poland.
The police attempt to neutralize the man with pepper spray, but he runs as bystanders flee in terror. Officers go through the barriers and chase after him before shooting him four times. The man then falls to the ground.
An ax-wielding man attacked Dutch fans near a fan zone during the march. The German police immediately intervened and shot him, seriously injuring him.
Four gunshots were heard near the Reeperbahn, where Dutch and Polish supporters were gathering ahead of today's match.
Around 40,000 Dutch fans were attending a peaceful celebration when a man with a golden ax began attacking fans and officials, German tabloid Bil d reports.
A witness at the scene said officers "acted harshly and quickly". According to German media, the aggressor then left the scene in an ambulance.
The attacker also had a Molotov cocktail in his backpack.
