Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk today renewed his contract with Liverpool until 2027. The previous contract expired on June 30.
The news was confirmed today by the English club, who added that the 33-year-old will stay at Anfield Road for another two seasons. A long-awaited news for the fans, who will still have their captain.
A renewal that comes 6 days after that of Mohamed Salah, who also renewed his contract for two years. Van Dijk has been playing for the Reds since 2018, when he arrived from Southampton.
" I am very happy and proud to play here. I have a lot of emotions in my mind now that I signed the new contract. It remains a feeling of pride ," said Van Dijk.
" It's a feeling of joy. It's just unbelievable. The journey I've had so far in my career, to be able to extend it for another two years at this club is amazing and I'm very happy ," the Dutchman added.
Further, he added: " Liverpool was always in my head. There was no doubt in my mind that this is the place to be for me and my family ."
