The White House expresses confidence that the United States has the capacity to host the biggest soccer tournament again, highlighting existing infrastructure and organizational experience.
Although the 2026 World Cup is still in development and there are 44 matches left until its conclusion, discussions have already begun in the United States about organizing another World Cup, this time in 2038.
After hosting the tournament in 1994 and co-hosting the 2026 edition with Mexico and Canada, the US administration is considering the possibility of submitting a candidacy to host the 2038 World Cup.
According to reports, the US is preparing a bid that could reach a value of around $2 billion to convince FIFA to entrust it with the organization of the 2038 World Cup.
The executive director of the White House task force for the 2026 World Cup, Andrew Giuliani, said the US is ready to handle a larger tournament.
" If we consider that this World Cup could expand to 64 teams at some point, I think the United States can handle that ," Giuliani declared.
He also announced that he had discussed this possibility with US President Donald Trump, emphasizing that the US remains the ideal destination for organizing a World Cup.
" There's no better place to host a World Cup than the United States, and I think that's reflected in the reactions on social media ," he said.
According to Giuliani, fans from all over the world are creating a positive impression of the country, while the sports and logistical infrastructure is one of the main advantages of the USA.
" We're seeing a lot of fans, who may be visiting the United States for the first time or after many years, are discovering that our country is very welcoming and has an incredible infrastructure. The stadiums already exist, so the cost of organizing is much lower compared to other countries, where tens of billions of dollars are needed to build them ," Giuliani added.
The interest in 2038 is no coincidence. So far, FIFA has confirmed the 2030 World Cup hosts, which will be Spain, Portugal and Morocco, while the 2034 edition will be held in Saudi Arabia. The 2038 World Cup still remains without a host country, making it the next target for the United States.
In the current edition of the 2026 World Cup, the USA is the host country for 78 of the tournament's 104 matches, strengthening the ambition to once again host the most important competition in world football.
If the American candidacy is formalized and approved by FIFA, the USA would host the World Cup for the second time, after the current tournament.
The United States could consider making a bid to host the men's 2038 World Cup, says the executive director of the White House's World Cup task force ????
