Former Formula 1 star Antonio Pizzonia has been arrested in the United States on charges of assault, according to American media reports.
The Brazilian driver, 45, known for his Formula 1 racing with Jaguar and Williams between 2003-2005, was detained by local authorities in Texas.
According to TMZ, Pizzonia was booked into the Montgomery County Jail around 6 p.m. Saturday, and police released his official arrest photo. Exact details about the circumstances leading up to his arrest have not yet been released.
Pizzonia was reportedly in the area to watch his son, Antonio Pizzonia Neto, compete in the 2026 Superkarts! USA Winter Series. The youngster finished the X30 Junior race in ninth place.
Antonio Pizzonia made his Formula One debut with Jaguar, but was replaced mid-season after failing to score points. He then joined Williams as Ralf Schumacher's replacement, scoring a total of eight points before ending his F1 career.
After leaving Formula 1, Pizzonia had other successes in motorsport, including winning the Auto GP World Series in 2015 and triumphs in the Boss GP Open class in 2023 and 2024. Media also report that he had celebrated the New Year with his family in Orlando, Florida.
