Albania managed to qualify for the World Cup Play-Offs for the first time in history. The Red and Blacks had a very good qualifying phase, giving not very beautiful performances, but with results.
Thus, Albania closes this edition with only 2 losses, which they suffered against England. The latter, played 8 matches in the group and won all of them, and moreover, scored a full 22 goals and did not concede any. Meanwhile, Albania also had an edition that will be remembered for a long time, since apart from England, no other team had the chance to win against our national team. “Panorama Sport” brings you below the statistics of the red and blacks in this difficult competition, to take second place in our group.
Defense - Silvinjo seems to have created a hermetic closure in the team. It is very difficult for the Rossoneri to concede a goal and this is shown by the figures of this edition. Thus, in the 8 matches played so far, Albania has only conceded 5 goals in the 8 matches it has played, goals of which 4 have been scored by England. This means that Albania's defense has been the absolute protagonist in these qualifiers and only Latvia has been the other team that has managed to find a goal against our team. In that particular match, Albania did not win and ended in a 1-1 draw, which brought quite a bit of stress to the Rossoneri, until after the victory in Leskovc. Thus, excluding England, Albania has played 6 matches with direct rivals in which it has scored 7 goals and conceded only 1.
Attack - Albania's attack left something to be desired. In 8 matches played, it has scored only 7 goals, but it is worth noting the fact that the goals scored have been decisive, giving points. We scored the first goal in the match against Andorra in Tirana, which was followed by 2 more goals in the same match. This was Albania's deepest victory, with a score of 3-0 and the only one in which we scored more than 1 goal. After that, we did not manage to score more goals in any match, stopping at a goalless draw with Serbia and a 1-1 draw with Latvia. With the same result, we then won against Latvia, against Serbia and finally against Andorra, these minimal results but with extraordinary values for our qualification. England is the only team to which we have not scored a single goal in 2 matches, while Andorra is the team that has conceded 4 goals to us.
Chances - The Reds have had chances to win the matches even deeper and this can be proven no further than the case of Nedim Bajrami in Leskovc, where in the last minutes of the match he came out alone in front of the goalkeeper but missed. A penalty was also missed by Rei Manaj in Tirana against Serbia, while Berat Gjimshiti hit the crossbar in the last challenge against Andorra.
The big problem our players had in these qualifiers was the number of shots on target per match. Albania ended the season with 25 shots on target, out of 8 matches played. Of course, this is a low number of shots considering the chances we had because there were only 11 golden chances to score, of which we missed 7 and which we managed to score. In other words, Albania scored an average of 0.9 goals per match and conceded 0.75 goals per match. On average, the Red and Blacks only hit the target 3 times per match, a figure that also reflects the low number of goals.
Group - The best attack in our group has been absolutely that of England, which is also one of the best attacks in Europe. As for the other rivals, Serbia has had a better attack than ours, but less efficient. The Serbs have scored 9 goals in 4 matches, excluding Albania and England, which have not scored a single goal in 4 matches. The Red and Blacks have the third best attack, leaving behind only Andorra and Latvia. England is undoubtedly the best in defense with no goals conceded, while Albania has conceded 5. England's goal difference is +22, Albania's +2, Serbia's -1, Latvia's -10 and finally Andorra's is -13.
