A scandal of grave proportions has engulfed the University of Sports of Tirana (UST), where hundreds of students risk being left with invalid diplomas, while flagrant legal violations, administrative abuses and institutional capture are taking place under the leadership of Rector Agron Kasa. Two documented cases now highlight a clear pattern of corruption and abuse of office, with direct consequences for students and the integrity of higher education.
A serious scandal has engulfed the Sports University of Tirana, where hundreds of students risk being left with invalid diplomas, while the institution's leaders are accused of blatant legal violations and abuse of power. Rector Agron Kasa is at the center of two serious denunciations that show a systematic pattern of abuse of office and academic degradation.
The first case concerns the Faculty of Rehabilitation Sciences, a structure opened in violation of the law and outside the profile of UST, which specializes only in sports. Rehabilitation and medical technical sciences programs, according to the law, can only be offered by universities profiled in medicine. UST leaders, although they knew that this program would never be licensed and that the diploma would not be recognized as a regulated profession, continued to collect fees from students and sell them a false promise. The goal was not academic, but the establishment of a bloated structure with positions and financial benefits, while today hundreds of young people find themselves faced with the fact that they have a diploma that is worthless in the labor market.
The second case concerns the illegal dismissal of the Dean of the Faculty of Movement Sciences. Rector Kasa made the decision without informing and obtaining the approval of the Ministry of Education, as required by the law on higher education. Immediately after this, he organized early elections on October 1, 2025, deliberately before the start of the academic year, excluding about 1,000 students from the right to vote. Such elections, without the main electoral body, are considered phantom elections with a predetermined result.
The silence of state institutions is as disturbing as the abuses themselves. The Ministry of Education has not reacted to the illegal dismissal of the dean, while the justice authorities are not investigating the massive fraud against students of the Rehabilitation program. This silence has created the idea of impunity, allowing the rector to act as if he were untouchable and to treat university rules with complete arbitrariness.
These events show that the Tirana Sports University is sliding towards a model of open abuse, where students pay the price for the incompetence, arrogance and narrow interests of its leaders, while the academic integrity of the institution is ultimately damaged./ Pamphlet
