In recent weeks there have been increased tensions at the institutional level between Barcelona and Real Madrid, caused by statements from the presidents of both clubs.
Florentino Perez claimed that the Catalans have historically been favoured by referees, which led Joan Laporta to declare that he and the Madrid club suffer from an obsession with Barcelona.
Laporta has now tried to put the issue behind him. During an event for "La Vanguardia" on Thursday, he spoke about Perez, for whom he expressed great respect.
" He is a calm and intelligent man. Now he expresses his opinions; in my first mandate I was more combative, although now he has issues against Tebas, against UEFA.
"I heard that we wouldn't be able to register players, but then the CSD gave us the right in the case of registering Olmo. Of course he is closer to those who manage in Spain, just like we are here in Catalonia because of the proximity. He defends his interests, as we do too ."
However, Laporta also stated that Perez and Real Madrid are obsessed with La Liga president Javier Tebas, who has recently come under fire. " He is a man of his word, he has extensive knowledge. I don't trust those who want to remove him. We know that the relationship we have built with him is good. It is from Real Madrid that those who want to remove him. I see that there is an obsession from the 'White House '," Laporta declared.
